Stormzy Announces Cambridge University Scholarship for Black Students

Stormzy took to instagram to announce that his #Merky imprint and Cambridge University are starting a new fund for youths coming from a disadvantaged background. “The Stormzy Scholarship” will see 2 black youths in 2018 and 2019 have their full tuition and maintenance paid for at the university. Read Stormzy’s statement below.

I am very very very proud to announce the launch of my new scholarship “The Stormzy Scholarship” in partnership with Cambridge University. With this scholarship we will be funding and covering the full tuition and maintenance for 2 black students this year and 2 black students in 2019 to study at Cambridge University. We as a minority are still heavily under represented at the top universities and I pray this scholarship serves as a reminder that we are more than capable of studying at places of this caliber. Congratulations to all the A-Level students getting their results today, be proud of yourselves despite what you got and overstand that this is only the tip of the iceberg for what’s to come! This is my proudest venture thus far and I look forward to seeing some young black geniuses go on to achieve at Cambridge via this scholarship. @cambridgeuniversityhttp://www.cam.ac.uk/stormzyscholarship for all info. Applications close on Thursday 30th August! #StormzyScholarship ❤️🙏🏿💪🏿”

Novelist Gets Nominated for Mercury Prize

Congratulations to Novelist as he gets shortlisted for the 2018 Mercury Prize for his album “Novelist Guy”.

The Lewisham MC and producer released his critically acclaimed album in April 2018 and has been nominated for album of the year alongside the likes of Jorja Smith, Artic Monkeys, Lilly Allen and Noel Gallagher.

Talking to NME, Novelist described the feeling about being nominated for the award: “I really do feel happy that the art is considered as a great piece of art,” Novelist told NME about his nomination. “I feel like I’ve got an A*.”

If Novelist does win the award, this would be the third Grime album in the 26 years of the Mercury Prize to have it, alongside Dizzee Rascal’s “Boy In Da Corner” and Skepta’s “Konnichiwa”.
